pitch, hit and run contest to be held

the pitch, hit and run contest for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, sponsored by salina parks and recreation, will be april 10 at bill burke park diamonds 4 and 6.

there is no registration fee.

start times are 10 a.m. for ages 7 and 8, 10:30 a.m. for ages 9 and 10, 11 a.m. for ages 11 and 12 and 11:30 a.m. for ages 13 and 14.

the first place all-around pitching, hitting and running champions in each age group will advance to the sectional competition. more information about the sectional competition will be available at the local meet.

rescue mission sale to be at stutzmans

the annual salina rescue mission flower sale will be april 14 to 17 at stutzmans garden center, ninth and cloud streets.

hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. proceeds go to feed, shelter and clothe homeless men at the mission.

walk ms salina to be at kenwood park

the national ms society mid america chapter will have its annual walk ms salina at 10 a.m. april 17 at kenwood park. check-in begins at 9 a.m.

in 2009, more than 50 walkers raised close to $13,000 through the walk.

three-mile and six-mile routes are planned, complete with rest stops, snacks and encouragement from volunteers. there also is a route that is accessible to people with handicaps.
