a salina man was arrested on a charge of arson in connection with the burning of a homeless man’s tent.

salina police received a call about 2 p.m. friday from someone who reported an intoxicated man carrying a torch in lum felton park, broadway and ash streets, said deputy police chief carson mansfield.

when police arrived, they found that someone had set fire to a tent belonging to gary wells, 52, mansfield said. the fire was extinguished, and police arrested james w. woods, 48, 111 w. ash.

damage was estimated at $50 to the tent and $100 to the surrounding grounds. wells was not injured, mansfield said.
